Devotional Gatherings

The Hamilton Bahá’í Community regularly has gatherings for prayers and readings to uplift the spirit, and all are welcome.  At these events, readings from the Holy Books of each world religion are taken, creating a warm atmosphere of sharing.  The readings are followedby a time for prayers offered by all those attending, if they wish, and then a social time.

Study Circles

Study Circles are regular gatherings of people interested in an in-depth and systematic study of the teachings of Bahá'u'lláh. They comprise a sequence of seven different courses or books with three overall objectives: i) providing insights into spiritual matters, ii) imparting knowledge about the Holy Word and iii) helping to develop specific acts of service.  The frequency and duration of the study of each book is set by the group and a facilitator serves to maintain the focus and pace.  Every participant in the group also makes a commitment to action or service.  Please see the calendar below for more information on when study circles are being held, and for more information about particular courses.

Children’s Classes

Children are the most precious resource a community has.  Much like a young tree, children will grow and develop in whatever way they are trained and according to the influences they experience.  Bahá'í children's classes are intended to nurture spiritually vibrant and healthy young people who will grow up without prejudice and with a positive, powerful sense that they are important to God and have a role to play in serving humanity.  Open to all, these classes provide children with spiritual and moral education, stories and friendship, games and art activities, in an environment designed to develop their capacities and interests.  Children are introduced to moral principles as well as the lives of humanity's foremost spiritual Teachers: Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Christ, Muhammad, the Báb and Bahá'u'lláh. Avoiding a sectarian or rigid approach, the classes aim to awaken in children an understanding and love of those universal spiritual principles and moral teachings that have served to uplift humanity throughout the ages.  Please see the calendar below for more information on when children’s classes are being held.

Junior Youth

A dynamic junior youth class, aimed at 12 to 15 year olds is running in Hamilton; its objective is to support the development of the capabilities of moral reasoning and eloquent expression.  Participants learn what it means to be an agent of social justice, how to participate in consultation, and to express compassion and understanding for each other.  They participate in community service projects, like visiting the elderly and supporting a food bank.  They have social events together, for example they recently visited the Mountsberg Bird Sanctuary and enjoyed the wagon ride through the conservation area.  At classes they study a book that presents contemporary social issues that are explored through discussion and connecting the themes to their own lives.  Singing, prayer, games, study, are all part of the Junior Youth group experience, where young people make friends and create a safe, supportive social network that prepares them to be courageous about making a positive difference in their community and in the world.

The Hamilton Junior Youth Group is open to all, and meets alternate Tuesdays and often one additional weekend day a month for a social activity.  It is co-animated by Lucy and Pat.  For more information, contact Pat @ 905-627-1883.
